Williamsburg Girl Found Safe, Went Missing Monday Afternoon

Leailany Ortiz (NYPD)

Nov. 7, 2018 Staff Report

A 12-year-old girl who went missing on Monday has been found, according to police.

Leailany Ortiz, from the Williamsburg Houses, was reported missing on Nov. 5 while she made her way home from school in the afternoon.

An NYPD spokesperson said today that Ortiz returned home and is now safe.

While the 12-year-old’s disappearance occurred earlier this week, police had erroneously sent out a report yesterday that said Ortiz had been missing since September.

An NYPD spokesperson said the Sept. 13 date attached initially attached to her disappearance was not related, and was sent out in error.

Note: A prior version of this article listed information on Ortiz’s disappearance provided by the NYPD, which was erroneous. The article has now been updated with recent information on the case.
