Indoor Food Market in Williamsburg Aiming to Open End of May, Operator Says

The upcoming North 3rd Street Market (NYC ZoLa/March 2018)

A large indoor market could soon be opening its doors in Williamsburg.

The North 3rd Street Market, located at 103 N. 3rd Street, is currently wrapping up interior work, and will primarily see vendors cooking up dishes like pirogues, ramen bowls, pizzas and Italian sandwiches, Mexican, desserts, and more.

Vendors at the 15,000 square foot site include a mix of citywide and local staples and up-and-coming concepts like Baba’s Pierogies, Di Fara Pizza, JaJaJa Plantas Mexicanas, Lobster Joint, and Corner Bistro. More than 20 vendors have signed on for the new market.

In addition to vendors, art installations will adorn the inside of the market. A permanent green wall installation made with vines and artificial plants, for example, will act as the main visual for the site. Additional installations will be on display throughout the property four times a year.

The market is a joint project by MRKTPL, a creative agency, and LENY, a development firm.

Manny Del Castillo, the operator of the upcoming marketplace, told Brooklyn’s Community Board 1 last week that the concept for the site is a “modern day food hall” and that he aims to open it by the end of the month.

“It’s very much like a Chelsea market,” Del Castillo said. “It’s basically giving opportunities for existing businesses to open up under one roof.”

The space will also hold about 230 people, with some vendors holding their own seating within the venue. Hours are still being worked out, but the space could open daily from 10 a.m. to around midnight.

News of this particular Williamsburg indoor market—a first for the neighborhood—came last summer, with reports pointing to a September 2017 opening for the site. It is unclear what caused the delay in opening.
