Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and environmental non-profit Riverkeeper are hosting a park cleanup and garden planning event this weekend at the Greenpoint park.

On Saturday May 4, volunteers will collect debris throughout the waterfront park and plant native, sustainable plant species near the East River shoreline, with the intention of enhancing wildlife in the green space. The event will be lead by landscape architect Emily Bauer, who will guide volunteers through the cleanup and planting process.

Volunteers will meet at the Bushwick Inlet Park Community Building, located at North 9th Street & Kent Avenue, at 10 a.m. Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes or boots, clothing that they can get dirty, and to bring work gloves, a hat, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle and snacks.

Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate in the event, but children must be properly supervised by an adult.

Those interested in participating are asked to RSVP on the cleanup’s event page.
