The widow of the Greenpoint man fatally stabbed by McGolrick Park has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs.

George Carroll, a 42-year-old playwright and actor, was walking with his wife Christina Carroll on Monitor Street close to their home on the evening of Aug. 18 when he was assaulted and received a stab wound in the heart, according to police. He was then taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Christina told multiple news outlets that small bickering between her husband and his assailants led to his assault and eventual death.

“My husband George was a victim of a random act of violence and his death was unexpected,” Christina wrote on the fundraising page.

“I’m asking for your help because I’d like to respect my husband’s wishes for his wake and burial,” she added.

The GoFundMe, set up on Aug. 20, has raised over $14,000 since Monday morning, surpassing its goal of $8,000. The page has also been shared over 750 times on Facebook.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and police say there may have been three suspects involved, including two Hispanic males, with the identity of the third not made out.

“I love him, I’m in shock, this doesn’t feel real” reads part of the message Christina wrote. “Every time I hear a bike chime I turn around to see if it’s him.”
