Gathering to be held at McGolrick Park after swastikas found on park tables

August 18, by Nathaly Pesantez

A gathering has been planned at McGolrick Park in protest against the swastikas that were found on park tables there earlier this week.

The event, called Love and Unity, will take place on Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Swastika symbols were found at the park on the morning of Aug. 15, with several people posting photos on social media of the symbols made with duct-tape that were placed on multiple tables.

Although the Facebook event says councilmember Stephen Levin and Assemblymember Joseph Lentol will be attending, neither have posted about the event through their official channels. A spokesperson for Lentol, however, confirmed he will be driving from Albany to be at the event.

A spokesperson for Levin said that he will be out of town on that day, but a representative from his office may attend.

Nazi propaganda was also found in Greenpoint earlier this week, and an anti-white supremacy and alt-right rally was planned for Aug. 18 at McGolrick Park in response.
