Two individuals have been sent to the hospital after a Department of Sanitation street cleaner collided with a private garbage truck earlier today, toppling the truck over onto multiple parked cars.

The street cleaner was heading eastbound down Flushing Avenue in south Williamsburg around 3:40 a.m., video of the incident shows, when it approached the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and began moving slightly to the right-hand side of the intersection.

The garbage truck, having been behind the city vehicle on Flushing Avenue, appears to continue straight on into the intersection as the cleaner moves to the right. The cleaner then attempted to make a left-hand turn and slammed into the side of the large truck.

The garbage truck then fell onto its side and landed on several parked cars on the north side of Flushing Avenue.

FDNY and NYPD responded to the scene. Two individuals were transported by EMS to Woodhull Hospital, FDNY said, but their injuries are unknown at this time. It is unclear if the individuals were the drivers of the vehicles.

The street was closed earlier today but has since been reopened.
