Police are searching for a man and a woman wanted for the assault and attempted robbery of an elderly man in Williamsburg last month.

On April 12, 2019, just after midnight, a 78-year-old man was pushing a cart full of recycled bottles near 215 Maujer St. As he bent down to pick up a bottle, his cart accidentally rolled into a parked car.

The unidentified man and woman then got out of the vehicle and began demanding money to repair the car door. The man took out a knife and began searching the victim’s pockets for money, while the woman kept a lookout. The man then slashed the victim on the left side of his face before both suspects fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for the large laceration, police said.

The man is described as black, approximately 25 to 30 years old, and roughly 5 feet 7 inches in height. He was last seen wearing a New York Yankees baseball hat, a dark colored jacket and dark jeans.

The female suspect is described as black, 25 to 30 years old, and approximately 5 feet 5 inches in height. She was last seen wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans, white sneakers, and carrying a tan purse.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

Comforting to know people carry knives to quell disputes. I wonder what knife is the official knife of the NY Yankees and if it was purchased at WB Mason. Also interesting that one would think someone collecting bottles would have enough money in their possession worth robbing.
