50-Year-Old Struck, Killed By SUV in Williamsburg Hit-and-Run: NYPD

A 50-year-old man died this morning after an SUV struck him along the Williamsburg and Bushwick border, according to police.

The man was crossing Metropolitan Avenue near Varick Avenue this morning just before 4 a.m. when he was hit mid-block by a dark-colored SUV, police say. The SUV was heading west along Metropolitan Avenue as the victim was walking north across the same avenue, according to the NYPD Highway District’s Collission Investigation Squad.

The 50-year-old was unconscious and unresponsive when police found him, and had sustained trauma through his head and body, police say. The driver of the SUV did not remain at the scene.

The victim was then taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 50-year-old’s identity is pending proper family notification, police said. There have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
